81-Year-Old Lebanon Man On Moped Dies In Crash With Car in Maine

Russell Faxon, 81, of Lebanon, was killed Monday, October 26, when a turning car struck the scooter he was riding, on Route 202 in Alfred, according to Maine State Police.

Russell Faxon was following a large box truck when Laura Melisi, 65, of Acton, attempted to turn left into the parking lot of an ice cream stand around 5 p.m., striking Faxon head-on in the opposite lane.

Melisi reportedly didn’t see Faxon’s scooter behind the truck after it passed her, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland. Police identified Faxon and Melisi late Tuesday morning, after notifying family members.

Faxon, who was not wearing a helmet, died at the scene of the crash, McCausland said. Melisi and her passenger were not injured.

Russell Faxon was a beloved founding member of the MAINE Republic Free STATE. He will be greatly missed by all. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to his wife Irene. There will be a Celebration of Life, October 14 at 2:00 P.M. at Goodwins Mills United Methodist Church, 55 Church Street, Lyman, Maine 04002

From earth’s fears and vain alarms,
Safe in His encircling arms,
He will keep us all the way,
God, our refuge, strength, and stay.
