A past Ghost

It was late in 1990 when My Army Military Police unit, the 320th was dispatched to Saudi Arabia during the first fake Gulf War.  I was a Sergeant at the time and recall being stationed at Dhahran after the famous four-day war.
.
I do not recall who had the photos, still photos, but I do remember what they were of.  He had several aerial photos of an enemy convoy which was totally destroyed.  But something was odd about these photos.  I asked the soldier who had the photos if there was any video of this.  He said yes but they were top secret.
.
What was odd, until today, was the fact that it was obvious that the convoy had no chance to surrender.  Why?   It was 3/4 to one mile long and not one body was seen outside of a vehicle.  Everyone and everything was burned in place as if it was hit all at once.  It was obvious to me that no helicopter nor tanks did this type of damage. And there were no assault vehicles in the photos nor any debris indicating exploded vehicles.  Was this one of the first uses of a Direct Energy Weapon?
